Power outage alert: Back up your CPAP in Seattle today!
The wind picks up, the trees blow down or lose branches, and there goes the electricity!
Most people don’t think too much about how an overnight power outage could affect them.
However, CPAP users rely on a steady stream of electricity overnight in order to use their equipment.
For people with moderate to severe obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), going even one night without CPAP is not an option.
Besides the risks that come with a dangerous disruption to your therapy, you should also be concerned about compliance statistics.
It makes sense to have a CPAP machine battery backup, and now that November’s here, ’tis the season.
What we recommend
Our favorite backup battery for CPAP is the Medistrom Pilot series offered by Choice One Medical.
Two models, the Pilot 12 and the Pilot 24, come with a built-in flashlight and USB adapter for cell phone charging.
Medistrom produces a small, lightweight, and reliable backup power supply that allows you the freedom to use your CPAP no matter where you are.
Choice One Medical so offers separate add-on units for both models(called “Co-Pilots”) which can be used to extend the battery life, and car charger options.
Pilot 12
The Medistrom Pilot 12 Plus Backup Power Supply/CPAP Battery works with the following CPAP device families:
- Philips Respironics DreamStation
- Philips Respironics RemStar System One S60 series
- Philips Respironics RemStar System One series
- Devilbiss Intellipap series
- Human Design Medical Z1 series
Important: The Pilot 12 is not compatible with ResMed devices.
The Pilot 12 works as a daily battery backup for your PAP device, pre-charged and ready for any situation. If the power goes out, this backup power supply will power your CPAP machine without interruption.
